Coffee, Cuddles, and Connections

My Thousand Gifts, Days 3-5

Once I decided to open my eyes to the gifts around me, I see them everywhere. I’m convinced thousands and thousands of tiny (and huge) gifts encompass my everyday life.

Here are a few of the “little” things I’ve learned to appreciate in my day-to-day life.

A Cup of Hot Coffee on a Quiet Morning (Day 3)

As a mother with two young-ish kiddos, there is no such thing as a “quiet morning” once they are awake.  Sometimes I forgo extra sleep for a few moments alone with a cup of coffee and quiet time with the Lord.  I sit in my favorite chair while the rest of my family still slumbers. Watching the sun rise outside the picture window of my front room, I can connect on a deep, intimate level with the God of the universe. Those few moments before the hustle and bustle of the day center me and remind me of the goodness of my life.

The Warmth of my Daughters (Day 4)

reading with child, gifts

I have every intention to read with my seven and eight year olds every night. Some days work out better than others. Life happens and I have to extend grace to myself when time gets past me and bedtime just needs to happen RIGHT NOW. On those nights when we can snuggle together to read a book, I am often overwhelmed by the love I feel toward these typically wiggly, squirming girls. With their sweet selves snuggled against me on their beds, we spend a few moments together in stillness and laughter. The warmth of my daughters reminds me of the immense responsibility and gift with which I have been entrusted Click To Tweet. Those moments often sustain me during the less “fun” aspects of motherhood.

Deep Connections with Friends (Day 5)

friendship

For the majority of my life, I worked to keep others at arm’s length, I am amazed at the immense joy I get from several close, Godly friendships the Lord has recently brought into my life. As a survivor of sexual and physical abuse, I rarely felt connected to others. Click To Tweet I always felt on edge and misunderstood by women. The Lord has changed my heart in this area. The gift of my sisters-in-Christ has brought unparalleled joy into my life. Being fully known by someone (and fully knowing them in return) has created a freedom I never knew existed.

I am so excited to share more of the gifts in my life with you. What are some of the gifts you see in your own lives?

A cup of coffee and on a quiet morning – one of my favorite things in life! You’re right though – life is filled with beautiful moments when we learn to become mindful of them.
